Meet our Healthy MomLiz Muirhead is the mom behind the blog, Looking Good (for a mom). Her story is a simple one. Far from a lifelong athlete, Liz never played organized sports, and spent most of her physical education time in weight lifting class because it was the one place she wouldn't be required to run.
For many years, the demands of being a full-time working mom took a toll on Liz's health, leading to weight gain and many poor health choices. She was a typical American working mom, relying on takeout to get her through the busy evenings, and thinking about exercise but too exhausted to find the time. Liz was so busy that she put everything else - her family, her job, and her other committments - ahead of herself.
When Liz's second child was born, at first the weight came off easily. Then, as her son weaned, it crept back on, and Liz ballooned two sizes in a year. In 2008, Liz saw a picture of herself at the beach that made her face the truth about the way she looked, and she decided it was (finally) time to make herself a priority. In the next nine months, she lost 20% of her body weight, dropped her body fat below 20%, and improved her cholesterol and physical fitness.
Now she uses her new-found obsession with health and fitness to help others, by sharing information and providing inspiration. Liz wants women to know that they should not be satisfied with just Looking Good (for a mom), but that they too can make meaningful changes in their lives, health, and fitness.
Liz is a long-time resident of Chester County, and starting writing in the internet in the late 1980's, focusing primarily on fanfic. Her recent foray into blogging has introduced her to the joys of non-fiction writing, and she is loving it. When she's not working as a financial analyst, at a PTA meeting, at the gym, or at church, she's usually with her family: husband John, daughter Lauren, and son Matthew.
