Getting kids to read during the summer months can be a daunting task for parents – and it's particularly difficult when kids aren't enthusiastic about reading. Yet, studies show that it's important that children read during the summer months to maintain their reading and comprehension skills.
As a leading book retailer that plays an important role in promoting children's literacy, Borders is hosting the "Double Dog Dare Reading Challenge” in stores nationwide May 4 through Aug. 30.
To participate, children aged 12 and under can read any 10 books they want and they'll get one book free from Borders. To obtain their book, kids need only note the titles they've read on the Borders Summer Reading Challenge form and have a parent or guardian sign it. (The form is available in-store and online at borders.com beginning May 4 but can only be redeemed in-store.)
For their free book, kids can choose from a number of great titles including "Ramona Brave” by Beverly Cleary and "My Weird School #1: Ms. Daisy is Crazy!” by Dan Gutman among many others. There is no limit on the number of times kids can take the Challenge and the books that children read do not have to be purchased from Borders.
